How to Make
🌿 Salves
Oil-and-beeswax balms for topical use — a traditional way to carry a herb's benefits directly to the skin for healing, soothing, or protecting.
Video guide coming soon — for now, follow the written steps below.
Equipment needed
- Double boiler or a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan
- Kitchen scale
- Cheesecloth or fine strainer
- Beeswax pellets or pastilles
- Heat-safe glass jars or metal tins
- Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
General method
- Infuse your chosen herb in a carrier oil — gently over a double boiler for 2–3 hours, or slowly in a sealed jar in a sunny spot for 4–6 weeks.
- Strain the infused oil through cheesecloth, squeezing out every last drop.
- Gently reheat the strained oil in a double boiler.
- Add beeswax (roughly 1 part beeswax to 4–5 parts oil) and stir until fully melted.
- Test the set by cooling a small spoonful on a plate — add more wax for a firmer salve or more oil for a softer one.
- Pour into tins or jars while still liquid.
- Let cool completely and undisturbed before sealing and labeling.
