Botanical background

Azadirachta indica, commonly known as neem, nimtree or Indian lilac, is a tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae. It is one of two species in the genus Azadirachta, and is native to the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. It typically is grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions. Neem trees also grow in islands located in the southern part of Iran. Its fruits and seeds are the source of neem oil.

1–3 cups daily
  • Steep 1–2 tsp of dried Neem in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes.
  • Cover while steeping.
  • Strain and drink.

20–40 drops in water, 2–3× daily
  • Pack dried Neem into a jar and cover with 40–60% alcohol.
  • Seal and steep for 4–6 weeks, shaking daily.
  • Strain and store in a dark dropper bottle.

  • Grind dried Neem into a fine powder.

  • Autoimmune conditions (lupus, MS, RA) — may overstimulate immune response
  • Active liver disease — monitor liver enzymes with long-term use
  • Diabetes medications — may enhance hypoglycaemic effect; monitor blood glucose closely
