Camphor Basil (Maeng Lak) (Ocimum canum) is a herb used in the Thai Traditional Medicine tradition to help with Digestive Issues, Fever, Respiratory Issues, and Anxiety. The aerial parts and leaves are the parts traditionally used, taken internally.

Botanical background

Ocimum americanum, known as American basil or "hoary basil", is an annual herb with white or lavender flowers. It is used for medicinal purposes. Despite the misleading name, it is native to Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, China, Southeast Asia. The species is naturalized in Queensland, Christmas Island, and parts of tropical America.

  • Steep 1–2 tsp of dried Camphor Basil (Maeng Lak) in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes.
  • Cover while steeping.

  • Pack dried Camphor Basil (Maeng Lak) into a jar and cover with 40–60% alcohol.
